F-5B Tiger II

This light tactical fighter is similar in design and construction to the T-38 Talon supersonic trainer and utilizes a higher-rated version of the J85 turbojets fitted in the Talon. In 1965, the USAF under the code name Skoshi Tiger evaluated a squadron of F-5s in Vietnam, where 12 aircraft flew up to 33 sorties a day for a successful trial period as a first-line combat unit. The two-seat “B” version used for trainer duties at Williams AFB, Arizona, was suitable for a wide range of combat and photographic reconnaissance duties.
